Ep39: The Unsolved Murder of Christina Menzies

John Menzies, originally from Glasgow, Scotland, joined the Royal Army to serve his country. By 1993, he was stationed in Germany at RAF Gutersloh. But while he was stationed in Germany, his 16-year old daughter, Christina Menzies, vanished after a night of partying at a dance club on the military installation.

Christina’s remains were discovered the very next day, on June 13, 1993. After interviewing over 300 persons connected to the military, military police arrested and charged a British soldier with Christina’s murder. The court-martial took place in 1994, but the result at the court-martial was shocking. He was acquitted. This is an interesting fact because after a parliament complaint by the Menzies that the Army didn’t do a good job with the investigation and the prosecutors could have done better, a Labour MP by the name of Mr. Galloway named the acquitted “suspect” in an open session to parliament.

The Menzies have continued to seek justice for Christina, even though it has been over 27 years since she was murdered. The Menzies have teamed up with Crime Stoppers UK to offer a 20,000 euro reward for information that leads to solving this cold case. If you think you might have information, please report it here. Earlier in the day on June 12, 1993, Christina had visited the Rhine Army Summer Show. This show has since grown exponentially, and during the 50-year anniversary of the show, there were over 200 vendors, and over 100,000 guests in attendance.

Christina was last seen wearing shoes similar to these, but they were never found. Investigators now believe that these shoes may hold the answer to who killed Christina Menzies.
